My name is Chelsea Leigh Chandler and I am presently attending Metropolitan State University in hopes of receiving a bachelor's degree in History with a secondary education minor. With my degree I plan on pursuing a job in the high school education. My passion originated in my own high school classroom so I would love for the chance to give back to America’s youth in the same way my teacher did for me. I love all aspects of history but would like to focus more on American History. As a teacher I plan to get kids more involved by integrating technology in the classroom and always letting them know that learning is fun! History should be exciting and interesting to student’s not just lectures and slideshows. “The aim of the historian, like that of the artist, is to enlarge our picture of the world, to give us a new way of looking at things.” as said by James Joll. My role as a teacher is to make kids understand and see things in perhaps a way they did not before. Also I would like to maintain a close relationship with my students by using one on one time with them to make sure they all comprehend and are actually learning the covered material throughout the duration of class and the year as a whole. Communication is key for any type of learning or relationship. Communication is what I plan on making a key factor in both student and mine own success as a teacher. Another passion I have is kids; I have always wanted a profession involving kids but didn’t really find my nitch until college when I decided to become a history teacher. Alongside with teaching I would love to coach at the high school level. I think it is important for students and teachers to have an awesome relationship, it really does make a difference if students like their teacher or not and especially with kids in that age group. With the world evolving and intertwining with technology and its rapid pace of advancement I think it is important for not only the students to learn about technology integration but teachers as well. Technology should not be a hindrance within the education field but a way to better help the youth of America in understanding and comprehending knowledge. While this may seem scary to some, technology should be a fun, new, and an exciting way to teach and learn.
